The village of Tegalalang, nestled in the beautiful mountains of Bali and surrounded by reputedly the most famous rice terraces in the world. This lies near Ubud, the home of Balinese culture. It is here these flexible wood and wire birds are made from local, fast growing albesia. Metal from Java forms the neck and legs.
If using outdoors, weatherize these birds by coating both wood and metal with a good quality exterior clear finish varnish. Repeat every couple of years, depending on the harshness of the weather. A hook over their feet, bedded into the earth, will help them to stand up. For their comfort and well-being, please migrate the birds indoors during winter.
We have this heron in our dining room in the corner and if touched lightly it bobs its head and greets us with a nod.
