Lost Wax Bronze Sculpture Collection
Handmade Fair Trade Bronze Sculptures. Elegant Lost Wax figures, handmade by artisans in Burkina Faso, Africa.
Lost Wax sculpting is an ancient practice in which an artist creates an original sculpture out of bees wax. Second, a clay casting is handmade to create an outer mold around the original wax figure. Next the molten bronze is carefully poured inside the outer mold thus melting the original wax form while at the same time taking its shape in the mold. After the molten bronze is cooled and hardened the plaster mold is removed, revealing the finished product and the original wax mold is now “lost”.
Molten bronze melts the bees wax mold, hence the name "Lost Wax".
