“Disability is not Inability” -Bombolulu Motto
Much of the fantastic, unique brass jewelry you will find at One World Fair Trade is handcrafted from our friends at Bombolulu workshops.
This Fair Trade Cooperative is based out of Mombasa, Kenya and this group employs over 100 artisans with physical disabilities. Employment is scarce in Kenya and virtually nonexistent for the disabled, working for this fair trade group creates dignified employment necessary to support themselves and their families but it helps to break down harmful stigmas about the physically disabled.
Bombolulu Workshops has been around since 1969. Artisans are trained in many fields including screen printing, crafting, wood carving and jewelry making. Artisans who work for this group are paid fairly and receive many other benefits including adult education, medical aid and housing.
