Senegalese Tangerine Dot Basket

Traditional craftsmanship and modern ingenuity combine beautifully in our Senegalese Tangerine Dot Basket.   Made by the Wolof women in rural Senegal this basket is hand woven Typha (cattail) stalks and up-cycled plastic scraps. The colorful plastic scraps are cuttings salvaged from plastic mat production.  The white and bright tangerine center are a striking contrast to the natural woven stalks.

Traditionally baskets are used in Senegal for winnowing grain and storage.  Our Fair Trade Tangerine Dot Basket is functional art.  Each unique piece is handwoven by women being paid a living wage, working in safe conditions and using renewable resources.

Measures 18" across and 4" deep
