Swaziland Sisal Coil Basket
A truly amazing work of art, our Swaziland Sisal Coil Basket demonstrates one of the most difficult types of basket weaving. Sisal fibers are tightly wrapped and stitched over tiny bundles of grass. Ensuring that each coil is consistent is a skill that takes years to perfect. Taking artisans up to 120 hours to make a single basket in the range of a foot in diameter makes them highly prized and rare.
Each of the designs on the Swaziland Sisal Coil Baskets are unique. The few master weavers that have the skill required to make the larger size baskets also have the skill to create the pattern without planning, never to be repeated again!
